How Correct Score Betting Works…

Football BettingIt’s probably fair to say that we’re currently in a golden age for football punting, with online bookmakers making it possible to place any and all types of bet in next to no time, from the comfort of our own homes. Amongst the many football betting options that are available in that way, correct score betting is probably one of the most popular.

As the name of the market suggests, these types of wager involve betting not only on the result of the game but also on the final score. Typically bookmakers will offer a raft of different scoreline options to punters, from 0-0 all the way up to around 9-0 or 10-0 either way.

That means that unless something other worldly occurs in any given game, the eventual final score will be there and available to bet on. Each potential scoreline is priced up differently by the online bookmakers, and it’s important to understand just what kind of odds you can expect for your correct score bets.

What Odds To Expect On Correct Scores

If you visited all the sites we’ve suggested for correct score betting in the table above you’d find slightly different odds on the same scorelines in all games, that’s always going to happen at different bookies, however those odds will follow a general outline and that’s what we’ll explain here..

The correct score odds you can expect on two main factors:

Who’s Playing Who

A Premier League game, for instance, between two fairly evenly matched sides will likely see draw scorelines or scorelines by which one or other team win by just one goal, priced up with the shortest odds.

Matches with a strong favourite such as early round FA Cup ties, on the other hand, will likely see comfortable wins for the favourite priced up with shorter odds, draws or close results given longer prices and any kind of win by the underdog being the longest priced alternatives.

Goal Scoring

It’s not all about how the two teams in a match measure up against one another when it comes to the correct score odds you can expect, either. The goal scoring record of the individual sides plays a key part, as well as how likely both teams are to score.

If a team is notoriously difficult to score against at home, for instance, scorelines where they win to nil will be offered at shorter prices. If a side struggles to score, however, scorelines where that side loses to nil will be the shortest odds options.

The same can happen if one team is more prone to conceding goals.

Correct Score Variation Bets

Correct Score Bet TypesMost major online bookmakers will offer a correct score market for almost every football match they cover, and will also provide a handful of other slightly different but largely related betting options. Those other markets all involve predicting a correct score but how they differ from general correct score betting is what we will explain below.

Scorecast betting is a popular way of enhancing the odds of a correct score bet by adding an extra element. A scorecast bet, after all, not only involves correctly predicting the final score of a game but also which player will score the first goal in the game.

Anytime Scorecast

Very similar to scorecast betting, anytime scorecast markets also involve predicting the final score of a game and choosing a particular goalscorer. Unlike normal scorecast bets, however, anytime scorecast bets are successful if that player scores at any time rather than only if they are the first goalscorer.

1st Half Scorecast

As the name of the market suggests, 1st half scorecast bets are exactly the same as scorecast bets except that you are predicting the half time score and not the final score. Some bookmakers, too, will offer 2nd half scorecast markets as a further alternative.

Half Time Correct Score

In the same way as you are able to place scorecast bets based solely on the first half of a game, you are also able to place correct score bets that only refer to the first 45 minutes of a match.

Double Result or Half Time/Full Time

Called slightly different things by different bookmakers, double result or half time/full time correct score bets require punters to successfully predict the score of a game at the break and at the end in order to pay out. As such, these bets generally offer far longer odds than standard correct score bets.
