Experts Guide: Best Basketball Betting Sites

BasketballIf you’ve ever visited my website before you’ll know my main aim is to help punters get the most possible out of their online bookmaker.

That is a tough task when it comes to basketball BUT there are a couple of options which stand out above the rest. I’ve detailed them below and explained why they stand out.

Best Betting Sites For Basketball

Basketball Bookmakers & Live Streaming

Basketball StreamingI know I compared the best basketball betting sites in the table above but being able to watch the game that you’ve bet on is just about as important as any factor and that’s why Unibet top my list.

Unibet’s live sport streaming service, in fact, is one of the very best around and allows any customer with a funded betting account or who has placed a bet in the past 24 hours to watch a wide array of events.

Amongst those events are basketball games from all around the world, with between 10 and 20 games per day often being available.

Live stream schedule information and the live streams themselves are readily available through the Unibet site but some geographical restrictions do apply in terms of which streams are viewable.

How To Bet On Basketball

As a largely US-centric sport, you might not expect basketball to be particularly well-served by the major online bookmakers on this side of the Atlantic. Fortunately, however, that’s not the case.

To help you get started, therefore, I’m going to take a look at some of the main basketball betting markets and talk a little about how they work.

Money Line

First and foremost, any and every basketball game that is priced up by an online betting site will feature a ‘money line’ market. This, in the simplest possible terms, is the equivalent match result market and involves betting on which team you think will win the match.

Odds for this particular market are generally pretty short and, in most cases, you are likely to find a favourite at odds on and an underdog at shades of odds against. The odds will be different, of course, depending on the game in question but it is quite unusual for both teams in any game to be at odds against.

Spread or Handicap

Like most sports closely associated with the USA, all basketball games priced up by an online bookmaker will also feature a ‘spread’ or ‘handicap’ market. Those markets essentially aim to even the odds from the aforementioned ‘money line’ market by applying a points based handicap to the teams in a game.

One team, for example, might be made a -4.5 point favourite and the other a +4.5 point underdog. A ‘spread’ or ‘handicap’ bet in that case would be a bet on either the favourite to win by five points or more, or on the underdog to win or to lose by four points or fewer. Due to the nature of these bets, the odds on each team will generally be exactly the same and are often at around evens or slightly shorter.

A third commonly available a widely popular type basketball bet is known at most betting sites as a ‘total’ market. This is a market which allows punters to bet on the total number of points scored in a basketball game rather than on the ultimate outcome of the game.

Which team wins a given game, in fact, has no impact at all on a ‘total’ bet. Offering simply the alternative to bet on either ‘over’ or ‘under’ a certain number of points, the exact points total for this type of market will be different from one game to the next and is set by the bookmaker.

What that means is that bookmakers will set the total higher for a game where more points are expected and lower for a potentially lower scoring game. As such, the odds available for either ‘over’ or ‘under’ in any game are typically the same and will often be somewhere around evens or shades of odds on.
